Transflo ELD

Transflo was founded in 1991 as the document imaging systems division of Pegasus Imaging. Its earliest works centered around scanning and imaging technology and then moved on to physical and digital document management. It now uses telematics – a cloud-based platform with an end-to-end network – to develop efficient transportation technology. The company is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. This article is a review of its eld, Transflo ELD T7.

The Transflo ELD price is $109.99 for the device alone, which is covered under a 1-year warranty. The minimum contract period for eld transflo is three years. Transflo offers two subscription plans for the eld. The standard eld subscription plan costs $28 per month. It offers HOS tracking, DVIRs, IFTA fuel tracking, DOT compliance, and GPS. The Fleet Telematics subscription plan costs $31 per month and covers everything under the standard plan, along with vehicle analytics.

Transflo ELD T7

To begin with, the Transflo ELD T7 is FMCSA compliant. 

The T7 is a compact model – 1.97” in width, 0.91” in height, and less than 3 inches in length (2.95”). It weighs 0.15 lb. The device is also equipped with a GPS tracker, an accelerometer, and a cellular chip, and is protected in a flame retardant ABS casing. Moving in tandem with 3G sunsetting, the device now works on 4G/LTE cellular bands. The ELD also has an IOX port, enabling integration with other hardware systems such as Driver ID, temperature tracking, etc.

Transflo ELD T7 Installation

Installing the ELD is easy and can be done without hiring a professional.

1. Locate the diagnostic port and attach the device to it. The ELD Transflo is compatible with 6,9, and 16-pin ports (adaptors available).
2. Turn on the ignition and let the device connect. This can take up to 10 minutes.
3. After turning it on, the device will start flashing lights. The red light indicates that the device has been powered on, the green light indicates that the device is connected to data, and the blue light indicates that GPS has been located. 
4. Login to the Transflo Portal. Add the new vehicle along with the serial number.
5. Finally, download Transflo Mobile+ App/HOS App on the smartphone, log in, select the ELD,  and connect it to the vehicle.

ELD Transflo Key Features

Transflo not only enables drivers to digitize their logs and driver reports but also helps owner-operators maintain oversight on the fleet and analyze individual and group datasets. 

HOS Transflo (E-logs)

Helps drivers keep track of their hours on duty and off duty to make sure they stay compliant and get adequate rest. With electronic logging, drivers have no hassle to manually record their hours of service. Logs are accessible through the app for a period of 6 months. Even if cellular connectivity is lost, the eld will continue to record data. Once connection is restored, the data will be updated on the Transflo server.

DVIR

Drivers will receive notifications on the Tranflo mobile app to fill in pre-trip and post-trip inspection reports where they can mention damages and defects that require replacement or maintenance.

IFTA

The ELD keeps track of the distance covered, fuel used, and vehicle location and uses the fuel receipts uploaded by the drivers to generate IFTA reports.

GPS 

GPS mapping helps the driver in easy navigation and helps the fleet manager keep track of their fleet vehicles in real-time.

Vehicle Diagnostics

Another service that can be availed with Transflo ELD is advanced vehicle analytics. Transflo uses its telematics software to collect engine data and send violation alerts and notifications to both the driver and the fleet manager. It offers enhanced tools such as fuel consumption monitoring, vehicle fault codes, driver behavior, live traffic updates, and route and load management. Data collected from the GPS, gyroscope, and the accelerometer can be used for accident detection and reconstruction, which in turn can help in training, insurance, and litigation.

On Trustpilot, Transflo has a 4.1 star rating based on 619 reviews. Many users have expressed their anguish at app glitches following software updates. Most mentioned complaints include difficulties in document scanning, text messaging, and location settings (an update requiring the location to be on at all times).

Overall Transflo ELD T7 Review

All in all, the Transflo ELD seems to be a decent choice for both fleets and independent drivers. Not only does it cover HOS, IFTA, DVIR, but it goes beyond to offer advanced vehicle analytics. Nonetheless, there are some drawbacks that need to be considered. Transflo may not be a great choice for short term use or on an experimental basis as the minimum contract period is three years. Furthermore, many users have complained about the Transflo mobile app. Glitches and app crashes are a noticeable problem.
